In a curious move, AMC’s planned MCU movie marathon to commemorate the arrival of Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled to be held in just two U.S. theaters. After 10 years of storytelling spread across 18 films, the culmination of everything Marvel Studios has been building to is upon us, with Infinity War just over a month away from hitting theaters. Fans have been relishing in all kinds of Avengers goodies recently, with EW’s massive spread followed by the plethora of details from the set visit. Today, most importantly, viewers finally got to see the long-awaited full trailer, which teased the MCU’s most epic installment yet.

Since Infinity War ties together narrative threads from all corners of the expansive franchise, many fans will want to revisit the previous movies and refresh their memories. Knowing there’d be great interest in such an event, AMC Theaters put together a whopping 31-hour MCU marathon so people can experience some of the series’ greatest moments on the big screen once more. Details were scarce at the time of the original announcement, but now some rather odd decisions have been revealed.

AMC updated their Infinity War marathon posting to reveal which movies would be a part of the event. Most notably, it’s stated the marathon will take place in just two theaters: AMC Empire 25 in New York and AMC Disney Springs 24 in Florida. Considering the MCU’s massive fan base, this is a rather strange call on AMC’s part. Surely, there are moviegoers in other states that would be interested in a marathon such as this, but people not based in New York and Florida will sadly be missing out on the celebration.

It’s also now been confirmed which films will be shown over the 31 hours. In addition to Infinity War (obviously) as the grand finale, attendees will see Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Black Panther. Given the magnitude of the MCU, it would be impossible to include the entirety of the franchise, but there are some notable omissions. Few will miss Iron Man 2 or Thor: The Dark World, but it’s surprising to see The Winter Soldier excluded. That was Joe and Anthony Russo’s first entry in the MCU and played a large role in informing the arcs of Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes - two primary players in Infinity War. And since Thor: Ragnarok led directly into Avengers 3, it would have been fun to relive the God of Thunder’s most recent outing.

The bigger story here is the limited number of locations, which will likely receive some backlash. Of course, fans can watch all the movies (minus Black Panther) from the comfort of their own homes, but nothing beats the experience of watching these tentpoles at the multiplex. It’ll be interesting to see if other chains try to strike a deal with Marvel to hold similar marathons, or if AMC has an exclusive arrangement. This development is definitely frustrating for most Avengers enthusiasts around the country, but New York and Florida viewers will have the time of their lives.
