The Ant-Man solo movies might not be the highest grossing in the MCU, but they’ve both been entertaining. Paul Rudd is as lovable as ever in the role of Scott Lang, and Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Michael Peña round out a terrific supporting cast.
The Ant-Man movies are smaller in scale (no pun intended) and more overtly light and comedic than most of Marvel’s other releases, but frankly, that’s a breath of fresh air. The world doesn’t always have to be at stake! Peyton Reed is signed on to direct a third Ant-Man movie. So, here are 10 Things That Could Happen In Ant-Man 3.
The characters will visit the bubbled city in the Quantum Realm
After the Quantum Realm was introduced in Ant-Man, it was featured very heavily in Ant-Man and the Wasp to establish its significance in Avengers: Endgame. During the Ant-Man sequel, in one of the Quantum Realm sequences, what seems to be a subatomic city can be seen in a bubble… which they may (or may not) visit in Ant-Man 3.
Producer Stephen Broussard has said that the Quantum Realm would be explored further in a potential third Ant-Man movie: “We talk a lot about the Quantum Realm and there would be perhaps more opportunity to go down there. Maybe there’s more down there than we realized.”
Hank Pym gets the recognition he’s always wanted
All Hank Pym ever wanted was to be recognized around the world as one of the greatest minds in the history of science. To be fair, that is quite ambitious, but he did create a formula that can proportionally resize a human being, so he is pretty smart.
Since the government kept trying to misuse Pym Particles, he became a bitter recluse and his work never made it to the big leagues. Now that Pym Particles have been used to save the whole universe, maybe Hank will get the recognition he’s always wanted in the scientific community. There might even be an awards ceremony!
Scott & Hope get married
When we first met Scott Lang in 2015’s Ant-Man, his life was a mess. He’d just gotten out of prison, his ex-wife wanted nothing to do with him, and he lived in a tiny apartment in a sketchy neighborhood.
But he’s come a long way since then. He’s made peace with his ex-wife and they’re working together (well, apart from the five years when Scott was trapped between time and space) to raise their daughter. Scott has found new love with Hope, and they make a great team. Maybe in Ant-Man 3, we’ll finally see Scott and Hope get hitched.
Bill Foster becomes Goliath
In Ant-Man and the Wasp, we were introduced to Bill Foster, played by The Matrix’s Laurence Fishburne, as an old colleague and rival of Hank’s. He had developed technology similar to Hank’s, only this time it allowed him to expand his size. At one point in the movie, he even discussed “sizes” with Scott.
In the threequel, if Bill and Hank can find a way to put their differences aside, then Bill could join the Ant-Man franchise’s team of size-changing heroes under his superhero name Goliath. Scott has gotten more competent at being Giant-Man, so he could give Bill some pointers on staying bigger for longer.
Dave is inexplicably absent
Scott Lang’s best-known friend in the MCU is Luis, played by Michael Peña, but the duo’s X-Con Security crew is rounded out with a couple of other comic-relief characters (not that these movies needed any more of them), including David Dastmalchian as Kurt and T.I. as Dave.
T.I.’s public opinion has drastically soured since he revealed on the Ladies Like Us podcast that he takes his daughter for annual trips to the gynecologist’s office to make sure she’s still a virgin. So, it’s not too unlikely that Dave will probably be inexplicably absent from Ant-Man 3. For similar reasons, the same thing will probably happen with T.J. Miller’s character in Deadpool 3.
Scott becomes Giant-Man full-time
Scott Lang first experimented with reversing his resizing technology at the end of Ant-Man to get himself out of the Quantum Realm. Then, he became Giant-Man for the first time during the airport battle in Captain America: Civil War. He became Giant-Man a few times throughout Ant-Man and the Wasp, but he got woozy and passed out in the ocean.
By Avengers: Endgame, he appeared to have perfected the balance between sizes, switching in and out of being Giant-Man during the final battle. Giant-Man is cooler than Ant-Man, so maybe Scott will become Giant-Man full-time and more fans will want to take selfies with him.
We’ll get more Far From Home-style post-Snap humor
This year, in Spider-Man: Far From Home, we got a bunch of hysterical post-Snap humor. Following Thanos’ finger-snap, we saw a surprisingly comedic take on the events, with some of Peter Parker’s classmates being five years older than everyone else and his teacher’s wife faking her own “dusting” in the Snap in order to leave him.
The Ant-Man solo franchise is perhaps the MCU’s most overtly comedic series – even more comedic than the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and latter-day Thor outings – so it would hardly be surprising if Ant-Man 3 has some similar jokes about the Snap’s effects on humanity.
Luis recaps the events of Infinity War & Endgame
Since Ant-Man was integral to the events of Avengers: Endgame, it will probably influence a lot of the character development in Ant-Man 3. However, it’s looking like the earliest it’ll arrive will be 2022, so passive moviegoers might have forgotten the blow-by-blow events of the Avengers saga’s epic conclusion by the time Scott Lang’s cinematic adventures continue.
That’s where Luis comes in. He’s famous for rapidly telling stories in voiceover form over a montage in which his dialogue is synched onto the actors’ mouths. In Ant-Man 3, it would be glorious to see Luis recap the events of Infinity War and Endgame.
Professor Hulk joins the team
Professor Hulk doesn’t seem to have a place in the MCU’s future. He hasn’t been announced to be appearing in any Phase 4 movies, and the pipe dream of a Hulk solo movie seems less likely than ever. It makes sense for him to appear in an Ant-Man movie.
Most of the supporting characters in the Ant-Man franchise – Hank, Janet, Bill, Hope – are scientific geniuses, so Bruce Banner would fit right into the group. He became friends with Scott Lang in Avengers: Endgame, even giving him a couple of tacos when his own got blown away by the Benatar landing.
Cassie becomes Stature
The five-year time jump in Avengers: Endgame turned Scott Lang’s young daughter Cassie into a teenager. This puts her in a prime position to take on her superhero alter ego from the comics, Stature, in Ant-Man 3.
Stature is a member of the Young Avengers, a team that could be on its way to the MCU, and she’d be a great addition to the Ant-Man solo franchise, too. Kevin Feige has said that a Young Avengers movie “would be cool,” and that Cassie becoming Stature could be the first step towards it. He also noted that Cassie being inspired by her father in Ant-Man and the Wasp could set this up. With the right build-up and exposition, this could become a reality in due time.
